They are best known for their hit single “I Ran (So Far Away),” which reached the top 10 in several countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom. In the UK, “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)” was their highest-charting single, reaching No. 10. I took the pictures below of the band in concert using my iPhone when they played at Queen’s Hall in Nuneaton in 2022.
In concert, A Flock of Seagulls (or AFOS) typically performs a mix of their popular hits and lesser-known album tracks. Their shows feature the signature new wave sound that the band is famous for, with electronic instrumentation and catchy melodies.
In the 1980s, the band’s lead singer, Mike Score, was well-known for his distinctive hairstyle, which features a large amount of hair swept upward in a “flock of seagulls” style. This hairstyle has become synonymous with the band. But as you can see from the pictures, not anymore!
