This project, titled “Marks on the Land,” explores the subtle and enduring traces of human presence across urban and rural environments in the UK. Rather than focusing on people themselves, the project turns to what remains—marks, alterations, and imprints that reveal how we shape the spaces we move through.

“The earth is art, the photographer is only a witness.”
Yann Arthus-Bertrand

From worn paths and weathered signage to makeshift structures and overlooked details, these photographs attend to the small interventions that accumulate over time. Some are deliberate, others incidental, but together they form a quiet record of occupation, use, and passage.
Working in a restrained, observational style, the images draw attention to what we often pass by without notice. They invite a slower way of seeing—one that recognises how we leave ourselves behind in the landscape, not only through grand gestures, but through the everyday act of being there.
